Hot Spot Sports Plus : Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira expects to play in his first game since hurting his right wrist in early March, suiting up for a minor-league game with Double-A Trenton on Wednesday.

Teixeira, who injured the wrist while preparing with the U.S. team for the World Baseball Classic, has been working out at the Yankees' minor-league complex.

''If everything goes as planned, I'll leave here Tuesday and play in Trenton Wednesday and Thursday,'' Teixeira said Friday. ''That's the plan right now.''

With Yankees manager Joe Girardi watching, the All-Star took part in an extensive simulated game with infielder Kevin Youkilis, who is out with a sore back. Along with hitting and base running, the pair played defense between at-bats.

Yankees Champions : Here is the latest injury updates!!

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman provided some news on battered players. SP Ivan Nova (triceps, oblique) will probably return to the team after their three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) and RP Joba Chamberlain (oblique) are on track to return a few days later. SS Eduardo Nunez (ribcage) should return by the end of the month.

The club hopes 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) will be back sometime in June; he's eligible to come off the 60-day DL May 31. SP Andy Pettitte (back) is probably 10 days away from being activated after one or two rehab outings. C Francisco Cervelli (hand) could be back sometime in July. 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) and SS Derek Jeter (ankle) still have undetermined post-All-Star-break timetables.

Bret Rogers : Another White Sox rant...... The Sox didn't resign Kevin Youkilis, who was quickly becoming a fan favorite. If you saw him play, he was a tough player who gave his best effort on every play. Easy player to like alot. This year, he's on the Disabled List currently with the Yankees, hitting .266 with OPS of .769. Who did the Sox replace him with? Jeff Keppinger. A career .282 hitter is having a standout year with the Sox, hitting .204. In 157 AB, he has 1 HR and 2 walks! An OPS of .460. Granted, Youkilis got like $12 mil with the Yanks, but what a downgrade so far this year.....

Club-Dodgers : I have heard that the Dodgers have been thinking of bringing up either Puig or Joc Pederson soon. With this whole Ethier/Mattingly fiasco that just happened I maybe think that Ethier's days as a Dodger are numbered. Pederson is hitting .327 with 8 HR's 20 RBI in 44 games played and looks to be the 1st choice of the 2 to come up to the bigs if indeed there's a roster move.
If Ethier is traded this season it's obviously going to have to be for a 3rd baseman. Aramis Ramirez??? He was on the Dodgers radar last year when the trade deadline was coming around last year and could again come up in trade talks. He would honestly be my 1st choice in a trade if we could make that happen for Ethier. We do need a power 3B and he looks to be the most eligible trade for Ethier. Who could the Dodgers get for Ethier if he is traded? Ramirez or someone else..

Hot Spot Sports Plus : Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez started his third week of on-field work by adding defensive drills and hitting in a cage.

The 37-year-old, recuperating from left hip surgery on Jan. 16, fielded grounders and took 25 swings during a batting practice session in an indoor cage Monday at the Yankees' minor league complex.

A-Rod, who has been hitting off a tee and taking swings at underhand soft tosses, ran from pole to pole near the warning track four times.

"Not bad," Rodriguez said when leaving the player's parking lot.

New York expects A-Rod to return after the All-Star break.

First baseman Mark Teixeira, sidelined by a right wrist injury, took another step toward playing in minor league games by batting in a simulated game against a pair of minor league pitchers. Teixeira has been out since injuring his wrist with the U.S. on March 5 before the World Baseball Classic.

Corner infielder Kevin Youkilis, on the disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain, continued taking on-field batting practice. He took grounders at third and made throws to both first and second base.

Youkilis also participated in Teixeira's simulated game but tracked the pitches and did not swing.

Starting pitching is able to keep the team afloat for the first month of the season until Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira return and provide support to Robinson Cano. Derek Jeter comes off the DL and is able to defy the odds once again, at least with the bat because he is still terrible in the field.
CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Andy Pettitte combine to make 90 starts. Mariano Rivera and David Robertson form the best late-inning duo in the AL. Alex Rodriguez returns at the All-Star break and is able to provide above-average offense at third base and/or DH.
(Worst-Case Scenario)
Age finally ruins this team. Andy Pettitte pitches like a 41-year-old in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. Sabathia battles injuries that plagued him at the end of 2012. All of the temporary solutions brought in to provide an offensive boost struggle (Kevin Youkilis, Vernon Wells, Brennan Boesch). Mariano Rivera's diminished velocity and time missed in 2012 take a toll on his command, making it easier to square up his cutter.
(Prediction: 83-79)
Even the most optimistic fan would struggle to make an argument that the Yankees will make the postseason. The Yankees are really old, have no depth and all the best talent in the farm system is at least one year away. Times are changing in the Bronx, though some might say it is not for the better.
