Al Bevilacqua : Jon was a special kid that we all had the pleasure of coaching. Gary Mims had him for 3 years as the Varsity Coach, Joe Catalnotto had in him MS and his senior as the new head coach and I was the assistant coach. He was a two time Conference Champion & an All County Wrestler in his senior year. He attended Binghamton University, wrestled and graduated early with a degree in Political Science. We have been very lucky at Massapequa with some great student- athletes. Jon was one of the great ones and at his funeral this morning there were thousands of people that lined the streets for miles. His entire Navy Seals were in attendance dressed out along with the American Legion, VFW and a caravan of cars following Jon to Pinelawn Cemetery and will rest in peace with the rest of the men & women who give service to our country.

The Cubs won their sixth consecutive CIF Southern Section Div. II track & field title last Saturday, amassing 79 points to runner-up Irvine Woodbridge’s 38. Loyola is continuing its quest to make major noise in the California state championship meet tonight in the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet at Cerritos College in Norwalk. The first running event is at 6:00 p.m. Both Cub relay teams will be competing along with Morgan Simon in the 100m and 200m sprints and Josh Lewis in the 800m. The top six finishers in each event qualify for the state championships which will be held at Buchanan High School in Clovis next Friday and Saturday.

At the Loyola track & Field banquet held earlier this week, Morgan Simon, the school record-holder in the 100 and 200, and a member of the Cub record-breaking 400 relay team and 1600 relay squad, was awarded the Greg Wells Award for leadership. Senior 300m intermediate hurdler Jordan Ferguson, who is headed to Brown to play football, and senior pole vaulter Michael Reyes shared the Ed Castellanos Award for commitment. Ferguson suffered a severely broken ankle in the final game of the football season that required surgical intervention, and proved every medical projection for a return to action wrong by battling back from the major injury to run in the last three meets of the season. Senior 800m runner and 1600 relay team member Josh Lewis won the Jon Dawson Award for competitiveness. Simon also earned Loyola High School’s Brogan Leadership Award.

The most talked about super fight had been Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva, but know it seems like more people are interested in seeing Silva fight lightheavyweight champion Jon Jones. UFC President Dana White recently spoke with CBS Atlanta and re-affirmed that we could see that super fight in 2013:

"Silva has a fight coming up on July 6, he's fighting Chris Weidman. Many people think this is a very serious threat to his record and his title and everything else. But if he gets past this test with Weidman, we could see this [Jones] super fight this year."

Tommy Price : Every time it seems life can't get any harder it does. It feels like there is no way to escape it. Its a claustrophobic feeling. But hard times come and go. Friends stab you in the back to an extent you can't even believe. But despite it all. Im still so glad to be tommy price. If i could go back in time and change on thing i wouldn't. I wouldn't stop myself from ever talking to jordin. I wouldn't try to keep my mom from going crazy. I wouldn't have stayed in school, and i wouldn't have kept skating. I would do everything i did over because it made me exactly who i am today. I am gonnna be the best dad, person, friend i can be. I am thankful for every event in my life that has made me stronger. Im only going to keep getting stronger. The events that took place tonight have helped me realize how strong i am. All my friends that think im going to fail..... yall are just mad your failing. LAS VEGAS -- UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones is still on the mend after an injury in the final seconds of his recent title defense against Chael Sonnen. While his left big toe was originally believed to be broken, it was later diagnosed as a dislocation. And while Jones hopes to return to the cage soon, there is not yet a timetable to his return, according to UFC president Dana White, who spoke to the champ on Wednesday.

White offered up some previously unrevealed information on the injury on Thursday, when he told the media following a UFC 160 press conference that Jones had also suffered ligament damage in addition to the gruesome dislocation.

"He says he feels great, the toe's healing good, but the problem is that ligament," he said. "That ligament popped. Anytime you tear a ligament, blood flow helps repair the thing and heal, and you don't get a lot of blood flow to the toe. Who knows? This thing could be six weeks, it could be six months. It's a pain in the ass, man. Always some little, crazy thing."

Jones, who is currently in Russia for a personal appearance, recently had the stitches taken out of his toe. White said that he plans to get an MRI on his toe when he returns. That could offer the fighter and the promotion more clarity on when he'll be able to return. Jones has repeatedly said in interviews that he hopes to fight Alexander Gustafsson in his next time out.

Jones' successful defense over Sonnen in April marked his fifth overall, tying him with Tito Ortiz for most in the division's history. He has said that he intends to break that record and then consider a possible move to heavyweight.
