Inland Region News and Insights : Today, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors recognized Ignacio Cabrera upon his retirement as principal at Bloomington High School (BHS) of the Colton Joint Unified School District (CJUSD). After his 15-year tenure with the school district, 13 as principal, BHS graduation and attendance rates are ranked number one within CJUSD at 89.6 percent and 95 percent, respectively.
“For the past 15 years, Bloomington High School has been very fortunate to have such a capable leader at the helm. His ability as an administrator can be proven by how the students and faculty have continued to succeed,” said Supervisor Gonzales.
From the time Cabrera became principal in 2000, BHS has received two separate accreditations from WASC and has been honored as a National Demonstration School since 2006. Academic Performance Index (API) scores have grown from 535 to 677 and currently 90 percent of BHS AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) seniors are admitted into 4-year colleges upon graduation. The BHS Advanced Placement (AP) Program has also flourished, with the number of students taking and passing AP tests increasing each year.
Cabrera holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in music education from the University of Arizona in Tuscon. He served as band director at three different schools before receiving his master’s degree and credential in educational administration.
He has lived in Riverside since 1981 and has been married to his wife Susan for 38 years whom with he has three children, Jon, Matthew and Jennifer.

University of Otago Music Department : AMPED Music Project AMPED Music Project is proud to announce that Simon Wallace has been appointed as coordinator for 2013!

AMPED is a project in which ten high school bands and solo acts get a chance to participate in workshops run by experienced musicians and music industry experts, and organise and perform at a series of all ages, alcohol free gigs.

Things will be kicking off on the 14th July, and running til late October. We are planning to have four workshops and six gigs (including a tour to Oamaru), as well as recording sessions toward the end of the project. If you are keen in getting involved, or know of any bands or artists that might be interested, get in touch!

As always, participation in this project is FREE.

Application forms are due in by JUNE 28TH. These are available at www.ampedmusicproject.weebly.com

Dev Tejwani : Most people that know me are fully aware of how much music has influenced my life. Throughout my adolescence and into adulthood, I have consumed and been involved with music and the industry in some form or another - from attending festivals in the early 2000s, supporting the rock/punk scenes during high school, to helping to produce music events in college. Although I do not make music, I definitely believe that it is a part of my soul, and is currently my mission in life.

For the better part of the last four years, I have been managing an online media/event production company that revolves around the underground hip-hop scene. TeamBackPack, which has truly become a global movement, has given me the opportunity to make a career out of my passion. I am incredibly proud of how far we have come and know how much opportunity there is for growth.

This Sunday, June 23rd, my team and I will be putting on one of our biggest events yet - Mission Underground SF. The event will include live cyphers, hip-hop artists from around North America, and corporate sponsors. Much is at stake with this production.

Me and a team of media makers lead by One Net Marketing are supporting the creation of a video that is slated be played on large video screens at music festivals and rock concerts across Canada. The video will be a 2min short about breaking the silence around teen suicide.

Join our Facebook page and come out on Wednesday. Bring a noise maker and friends. We want 100 people (acting as teachers and students) in the gym to take on the role of an assembled high school community. This is going to be a fun an interesting 3 hours (snacks will be provided). Our hope is to create a cool video that we can all feel proud of that will have a positive impact on an issue that is under discussed in our communities.

I asked my parents for a guitar as my graduation gift from high school because I wanted to contribute something to the world of music which I constantly surrounded myself with.

I spent the last three years saying to myself that I would put out a record. I finally got tired of breaking that promise to myself, so I created my website. This was the start of my chemical mixture which I was looking for, but I still needed the catalyst.

I than created a promo flier with the EP title and release date before I even had a single note or lyrics written.

Sometimes in life we need boundaries to remind us where we are at on the map of our own world.

Dave Soldner : This Friday night is the big Relay-for-Life event at the Beaver Dam High School track. This is my fourth year in a row helping out. I highly recommend anyone that is able come on out and enjoy the fun. It costs nothing to get in, but any money you do spend there goes to fight cancer and help find a cure. Many people show up just to walk the track or listen to the music the dj plays. If you have never seen the lighting ceremony after midnight when they turn off all the lights, it is quite an emotional sight. I will be there at 4 pm to help set-up the silent auction and work security. A bunch of people bring tents and sleeping bags because it doesn't end until the next morning. Gary Soldner is a member of the "Cancer Crushers" team and will be running the silent auction.
