The attitu...de which goes with the statement "Apa lagi Cina mau?" is deliberately provocative and downright rude. We Malaysians have always prided ourselves as a people who are polite, well-mannered and peaceful, and statements such as this cannot continue to be used for the purpose of stirring up racial tension.

Why are we not content with the peace that our country enjoys now? Have we forgotten the bloodshed and the deaths of so many in the past? Do we really want that to recur? We have gone through many wars and conflicts together : the Japanese Occupation during the Second World War. Then there was the Communist insurgency which led to the Emergency which lasted for 12 years (1948-1960). Any racial unrest will benefit noone, regardless which political coalition we support, or if we chose to remain non-partisan or have no interest in politics.

Instead of insulting one another, or making snide and hurtful remarks, we should instead try to "agree to disagree". We should not shoot our mouths off. LISTEN instead. I have had chats and arguments with both family and friends about issues which we all take an interest in. If there are ten of us, there may be ten different opinions. It doesn't mean any of us is a hundred-percent right or a hundred-percent wrong. In between black and white, there are many grey areas, and so it is with any arguments or opinions.

To my dear Malaysian friends, please let us agree to disagree. Let us accept one another despite our flaws and weaknesses. We are all human and none of us are perfect, whatever our professions, our age, our gender. Our country isn't perfect either but it is the place which we all call "home", and we all have a right to live here.
