Frank Eib : I would like to offer my personal feelings on The Butler, a movie coming out on 8/16/13. The story is about an African American man played by Forest Whitaker who is a butler to eight Presidents in the White House for over thirty years. Also starring in the movie is Jane Fonda, better known as Hanoi Jane, who will portray former first lady Nancy Reagan. When asked by reporters what she thought about those Vietnam veterans who suggest people boycott her new film, she stated, " Get a life, who cares ?". She and her husband said the American prisoners of war were liars and hypocrites. During her radio broadcast from North Vietnam, she called U.S.military personnel and President Nixon war criminals, while praising the people of North Vietnam. The photo of her sitting at a North Vietnamese anti aircraft gun and smiling and laughing has been seen by millions. Fonda's remarks show an insensitivity to those 58,000 Americans killed in the Vietnam conflict who will never have a life, or the 150,000 wounded mentally and physically, whose lives were altered forever. Because of Hanoi Jane being a part of this movie, I will proudly join the Vietnam Veterans in their boycott and hope that millions of Americans join the boycott. I cannot think of a better way to show our Vietnam Veterans how much we thank them for their service to our country and how much we support and love the family members that lost their loved ones.
