Donovan Rundle : About five years ago, my surfing friend and mentor, Mr. Fred Friday, suggested a safari north to check the point, Hobson's, etc. It was good, but crowded everywhere. He said, "What the hell, let's check Rincon." We got there and it was a freakish scence. Everyone expected that it was going to be so good that they went elsewhere. There was maybe a dozen or 15 other guys out. The sets were hooking up to the lower section. Pretty soon we were just getting so dialed in. I wasn't a good surfer with moves and stuff, but I could stall with just enough maneuver to hang right in the pocket. I saw a big one, and everyone else had been cleared out. It was mine to make. I had my new Yater Surftech, a really bitchen board, perfect for me to ride there. I caught it just right, dropped in steep and make a decent bottom turn. I climbed up the back, right into the pocket and was just ripping. Yeah, just a down the line guy with all kinds of issues, but that wave is just burned into my mind until the day I die. It was so clean and clear, about 2 feet over head from the middle of the face and I could see right through the Coke bottle glass of it. I was so stoked. So grateful to all my neighbors who brought me along and showed me enough to be a journeyman surfer. Fred, Brian, Kevin, I miss you guys and the incredible fun we used to find. There's always a sad side I guess because my body is just whipped from wounds, work and the deep love of ocean. I lost count of fin stitches, but I didn't care about those. My back went into multilevel disc failure and they say it's too gone to fix. I keep working on it though. I swam half a mile the other day. I'm going to paddle out on my Rusty Desert Island, I'm just not completely at home on dry land, been a waterman all my life and now, so much pain. But, never say die! I'm making another run at it. 2 days ago - View -

Peter Antony : Just like in the old days, and possibly still now to some respect, a young person could meet another young person and know exactly what sort of person they had just met by checking out there record collection. Your choice of music says an awful lot about you. Now if we had just looked at the music before we joined Europe, perhaps we wouldn't have been in such a hurry. Just saying. 4 days ago - View -
Jimmy Thesaint : Timeline Photos Did you know that Minneapolis, MN boasts the "World's Quietest Room", a title given by Guinness World Records!
It's called the Anechoic Chamber, meaning there's no echo because all sound is absorbed through meter long sound-proofing wedges. This room measures at a jaw-dropping -9 decibels, which is crazy considering a normal conversation is around 60 decibels & a quiet room typical for sleeping measures around 30 decibels.
This room is so quiet that a person inside hears every tiny noise, including the sound of their own heart beat. It's been said that no one has ever been able to stay inside for longer than 45 minutes & some people have even hallucinated due to the absolute sound of silence!

Mark S. Meritt : I liked The Beach Boys for a long time. After getting Pet Sounds many years ago, I thought they (and especially Brian Wilson) were pretty great. After hearing Wilson's Smile a few years ago, I was rather entranced. When I started listening to the Smile Sessions box set on Spotify a few weeks ago, I believed that I'd found my desert island record (yeah, I count box sets, and I might even just pick Smile, the old or the new, if I was allowed only a single disc). Wrapping up the fifth and final disc of the box set now, I think Brian Wilson may have come to be one of my favorite recording artists. He's at once great with melody and song craft, and also brilliant in exploring countless possibilities around an idea through variation and arrangement, like a strange attractor in chaos theory that keeps circling the same territory without ever truly repeating itself. I keep wanting to get things done while I'm listening, but I keep being sucked in and lost in the music. 5 days ago - View -

Mark Rodgers : this morning, listened to a very interesting edition of Desert Island discs, featuring the one and only Damien Hurst. It ignites the excitement of being an artist, and being all you could ever dare to dream of........he is more exciting than Morrissey's Desert Island disc. Hurst's performance of being himself requires less effort and tediousness of what it takez Morrissey to be Morrisey, totally different outlooks.. 5 days ago - View -
