Michael Rogers : Timeline Photos The woman who falsely accused football star Brian Banks of raping her is being forced to pay big time.

A judge has ordered that the woman pay $2.6 million to Banks for ruining his life with false allegations. The lies caused him to lose numerous scholarship offers to college and also led to a prison sentence of over five years.

Wanetta Gibson told lies to authorities when she accused Banks of assaulting her when the two attended Long Beach Poly High, where Banks was both a student and football star.

After the conviction, the girl sued the school district and received $1.5 million. The conviction was overturned when Gibson was secretly recorded admitting that she made the whole thing up.

Years later, Gibson confessed and Banks was released. The woman is being forced to repay a $750,000 settlement to the school, plus attorneys fees, interest and another $1 million in punitive damages. It's sad but rarely does the truth ever come out. I'm glad it did this one time but there are a lot of people who weren't as lucky. American Violet is a good movie depicting this based (loosely) on true events here in Texas.

Our Saturday Musical : REMINDER: There will me NO MUSICAL this coming Saturday, 22 June!

Why, you may ask? Because Betse Ellis (originally from Fayetteville) and Violet Hensley (Yellville) will be the special “Double Feature” at the Ozark Folk Center, performing for the entire two-hour evening music show.

Renowned fiddler Betse Ellis is a founding member of Kansas City “hillbilly riot” band, The Wilders. Adept at the difficult technique of singing while playing the fiddle, her on-stage sparkle and enthusiasm rouses the crowd. She gathers diverse music and presents it with humor, intensity, and love. Betse connects with her audience performing “old time/new time” material, drawn from traditional American (especially Ozark) fiddle tunes, old songs and spirituals, original tunes and songs, and a dose of her “personal" old-time music.

Violet Hensley is one last of a breed of original Old Time Ozark fiddlers. Known as the “Whittling Fiddler,” the “Stradivarius of the Ozarks,” or more simply, the “Fiddle Maker,” Violet has been a fiddle maker and musician most of her life and was designated as the 2004 Arkansas Living Treasure by the Arkansas Arts Council. Violet was born on October 21, 1916 and followed in her father’s footsteps as a musician and fiddle maker for many years.

Regular admission charged ($12 for adults, $7 for children). Season passes are honored for this special evening. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm.

To gain entrance to this ALL DAY event, it will be a $10 donation at the door, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross. "What if I don't have the cash?", you ask? Well....you can also bring a donation of NON PERISHABLE food items, school supplies, pet food and clothing....all of that will be donated to the Salvation Army and The South Jersey Food Bank! This will be a HUGE event and it's all going to a good cause...AND we will be making another HUGE announcement on next weeks show, in regards to the event.
