MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek today shot back at party veterans seeking his immediate resignation, blaming their political baggages as the reason behind MCA's recent electoral defeat.

Citing an example, he said that one of the 15 veterans who had ask him step down was once jailed for a criminal offence.

NONEAlthough he did not name the person, it was very likely that he was referring to Tan Koon Swan (left), who was jailed for two years for fraud by the Singapore High Court in 1986.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the MCA central committee meeting today, Chua said the criticisms of the 15 party veterans was not brought up during the meeting.

Chua said that the group of party veterans not only left a poor legacy, they do not care about party affairs and do not participate in party activities, such as its AGM.

Asked if the group of veterans were to blame for MCA's poor electoral showing, Chua responded: "Of course lah! We have to deal with the burdens they left us with".

"I am an elected president. If every time we ask the elected president to resign, why should we have party elections?"

The 15 party elders are Tan, Lee San Chun, Lim Ah Lek, Lee Kim Sai, Wong Sea Wah, Sak Cheng Lum, Michael Chen, Lau Yin Pin, Jimmy Lau, Fu Ah Kiow, Woon See Chin, Wong Kam Hong, Freddie Long, Kee Yong Wee and Wang Choon Wing.

I am now working with teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds in Chow Kit. One of the girls I'm working with, now 18 years old, has recently confided in me about her concerns for her future. She is an extremely diligent girl who wants nothing more than to pursue a higher education in nursing, but is not picky to try out any other field.

She applied to public universities through via http://upu.mohe.gov.my/ and just received news that she was not accepted.

She scored 3As, and all Bs in her SPM. She identifies herself as a Malay Muslim, Malaysian citizen with a blue I/C. Both her parents come from Indonesia and are red I/C holders. She comes from a poor family.

MY QUESTIONS:

1. She claims she is not a Bumiputera because her parents are red I/C holders. Therefore, she thinks she cannot apply to universities like UiTM. I thought any Malaysian Malay-Muslim is a bumi? Am I wrong? How do I check?

2. She applied to several public universities through the UPU website. She failed to get in. Can she appeal? Can she try again and if yes, when and how?

3. What other options does she have besides public uni and private colleges?

4. Who can she speak to about pursuing her studies? Someone who can give good advice?

Emmanuel Joseph : I wanted to try the boycott Chinese thing so badly.So day before yesterday my friends wanted to eat white wine lala and fu yong hai,but I couldn't find a Malay abang selling it.Yesterday morning I wanted to have Bak Kut Teh then realized no Indian made it.Adamant,I told myself I can live without pork or white wine..In the afternoon I wanted white coffee but damn the Cina controls that too! I tried buying DVDs from the Indian seller but he charged me RM1 more and didn't have Korean or Japanese,um...movies.Upset,I needed asam to kill the pain but avoiding the Chinese medical hall,the Indian Muslim guy only had local ripoffs that's more sweet then sour it gave me a sore throat.I needed my Sea Coconut and Nim Jom but since no Chinese,I used Breacol and it gave me diorrhea instead! No Poh Chai so I had to use Lomotil.All that running around I needed Tiger Balm....but sueh,itupun Cina....so I thought Okla,all these are just comfort items.Demi Malaysia I will persevere!!!Mati Cina....but.... the last straw came when my friend hit a flat tyre,and I realized bugger,all the tyre shops are Chinese.So cannot boycott la.Sorry,Utusan,I tried.I really did ;)
