Anna Schiel : Hi everyone. Just to remind you that the section of lower street outside 1A will be closed as of 10th March as requested by Somerset County Council. It should only be for a few days to fix our leaky roof. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Ubbe, Ubba or Hubba Ragnarsson was a Norse leader during the Viking Age. Ubbe Ragnarsson was one of the sons of Ragnar Lodbrok and, along with his brothers Halfdan and Ivar the Boneless, a leader of the Great Heathen Army.
In 878, a party of Vikings landed on the coast of Devon after travelling from Dyfed in Wales. There they observed that a number of Saxons had taken refuge in the fort of Cynwit. The Vikings proceeded to besiege the fort, expecting the English to surrender eventually from lack of water. Instead of waiting to die of thirst on top of the hill, the Saxons attacked suddenly out of the fortress at dawn, taking the Danes by surprise and winning a great victory. Ubbe was killed by the Saxons under the leadership of Odda of Devon at the Battle of Cynuit in Somerset.
Little is known about Ubbe Ragnarsson. The information that is available about him is written principally in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. 5 minutes ago - View -

Meg Gale : Hi -just found your amazing group. I live interstate, but am from Burnie and have many happy memories of Somerset, including swimming in the Cam. I'm after a favour. Does anyone have any photos of the beautiful garden that used to be at the back of Somerset - on the corner of Edwards St and the Murchison Highway? I understand the garden is no longer there as the new owners got rid of it after Mr & Mrs Summers died, but I have a lot of memories of visiting that place with my grandmother (back in the 60s & 70s). I still remember their giant ginger cat, Tom Dooley. Any photos would be appreciated 16 minutes ago - View -
