Ken Jones : West Lindsey District Council have invited residents to go and watch the chairman raise a flag to celebrate National Armed Forces Day.

My Response:

This is a disgrace to every past and serving armed forces member that comes from gainsborough.

This is a national event and has been for several years, yet all our council can do is raise a flag. While other towns around us are marking this event with special shows and displays, gainsborough council does nothing. Please remember that a lot of men and women from gainsborough have served or are serving in the armed forces, doing the job that many of us could not and some of us are not even willing to talk about. They don't ask for a tribute, but as a council who are supposed to represent everyone in the area, you could have mad a little more effort. As usual it appears that the only thing this council does care about are it's major businesses and farmers with a perfect example being that on national armed forces day, Marshalls Yard are holding a Country Living Market and the only place in town that is doing anything for the armed forces is the Trent Port because their chain ownership is running a promotion. As usual it just shows that people are ok talking about supporting our troops, but are not prepared to actually do anything about it.
