Debra Reid Debra Reid : Timeline Photos     **** Bear with us this is a long post!***

I've been debating whether or not it's good idea to give any air time the new advertised series coming to Channel Seven about Bali. It's been mentioned to me so many times in the past week that I feel like we really want to say something about it.

We were contacted last year by Aussies in Bali TV Series which is an Eyeworks Australia production that is going to be aired on Channel 7. At my point of contact I asked the team what they were looking for in Bali and was this going to be another "Bali bashing" from the Australian media. I was told that what they were trying to do was showcase why so many Aussies loved to go to Bali so regularly. We declined their offer to be part of filming and since the previews of the series have come out I'm quiet glad we did!

The tag line being used by Channel 7 is "Did you know that an Australian dies in Bali every 9 days". They go on to show a girl who jumps off a cliff and hurts her back and a lady on a scooter in an accident. It's really disappointing that Chanel 7 sees it necessary to dramatise unfortunate events that happen in every country - not just Bali.

The statistics show that there are far more dangerous places to be a tourist than in Bali - yet we continue to see Australian media pieces demonising the beautiful Island that many Australians think of as a second home.

I am not saying that there are no problems in Bali but I am saying that it is disappointing that we don't see more of the fabulous things that happen in Bali that make the one million Australians travel there every year.

We can only hope that the Chanel 7 series is using the most dramatic of their footage and saving the "good news stories" for the rest of the series.
