Wayne Blanchard : John Rogers's Photos Just heard we lost another legend in the music world - Mr. Ed Shaughnessy. I will always remember watching the Johnny Carson Show as a kid, especially when Buddy Rich was on the show. What a treat to see two of the greats in a friendly drum battle. The battle continues in heaven now. RIP Mr. Shaughnessy. ED SHAUGHNESSY HAD DIED - Best known for his many years drumming with Doc Severinsen on the Tonight Show (though he was an amazing musician and quite famous long before then) and his ongoing effort to educate and inspire young players, Ed handled any type of music with big band flair and rock energy, including accompanying Hendrix during his appearance on the show. Ed was a great guy...always excited about life. Whenever I'd call him he'd just be back from his morning run, which was all part of his keeping in shape routine (Hey, double kicks and a lot of toms to play!). One day I received an expensive pen in the post. Accompanying it was a note of appreciation. It was Ed thanking me for 'making me sound so good' in something I had written about him. He was like that; he appreciated the efforts of others. The last time I saw him was about four years back in LA, where we were doing a photo shoot at Neil Zlozower's studio. Ed came with his wife, Ilene Woods, a wonderful woman who passed away soon after due to Alzheimer's. Ms. Woods was the voice of Cinderella in the Disney movie of the same name and appeared in the TV show 'Touched by an Angel'. They made a delightful couple, and hopefully there is a place beyond where they will meet again.
For all you drummers, here is a link to a clip of Ed with Buddy Rich.

Like everybody else out there, I read about my band, Stone Temple Pilots, and their recent performance this past weekend with a new singer. To tell you the truth, it took me by surprise. And it hurt.
But the band that played last weekend was not Stone Temple Pilots and it was wrong of them to present themselves as that.
First of all they don't have the legal right to call themselves STP because I'm still a member of the band. And more importantly, they don't have the ethical right to call themselves Stone Temple Pilots because it's misleading and dishonest to the millions of fans that have followed us for so many years.
When I tour on my own, it's never as Stone Temple Pilots. It's as Scott Weiland. The fans deserve to know what they're getting.
Like any band that's stood the test of time and made music for more than two decades, STP had a special alchemy - the four of us together were greater than any one of us apart. So if my former bandmates want to tour with a new singer, that's their prerogative.
I don't give a fuck what they call themselves, but it's not Stone Temple Pilots.
And so I say to you, our fans, I'll see you out there on the road this summer where I'm touring as "Scott Weiland" with my band The Wildabouts. But don't give up on STP. I know I haven't.
Tim Stockford : No matter what the final score is tonight Ottawa has proven so many wrong this season by first making the playoffs and then making it to the second round .

Penni Adrian : The babies left no poops in the rabbit pan today. Everything of note occurred outside in the puppy pen. They are still a bit unpredictable in the pee department, but I'm very proud of them -- and of their dad who has guided their progress.
Tomorrow Faust officially becomes "Andy" and will go home to Englewood Colorado with Sheri Morrow. He's such a happy boy that I know he'll keep smiles on Sheri and Gerry's faces. Tomorrow evening LUV Airlines will bring Margaret Williams here from South Dakota. Gandolph will transform into Augie and fly home with her. Look out ducks -- and Rocky -- there'll be a new kid in town. He can hold Margaret and Frank's dog door open for the house flies.
Only the girls will be left with me. Which is fine -- they are so energetic and happy. Sunday we will visit Kevin and Tricia Dooley for a special photo shoot which will include Daddy Chase. There will be an exciting announcement before long . . . 11 hours ago - View -

Shawn Mitchell : I've haven't felt strongly--viscerally--about guns and the right to arms except as an intellectual matter until a minute ago.
I just watched a video of the red-handed--literally and sickeningly--cleaver wielding killer charging at British police, heard the *pop, pop, pop* of them properly halting his charge, and watched him drop to the street.|
Then I thought about the laws that disarm a nation. The soldier was defenseless. Any other victim was defenseless. As a matter of grace for Brits on the street that day, the head hacker was more interested in impromptu press conferences than in harvesting more blood, until the police came. Then he charged.
I'm grateful they were able to defend themselves and end his rampage. I'm contemptuous that national policy denies virtually all citizens that natural right.
What on earth good is it for the shop keeper, the cleaning lady, the farmer that the police can defend themselves against murderous assault, but they cannot? It is not right. It is not natural. I daresay, it's evil. 12 hours ago - View -
