More than 50 dogs were rescued from a home in Mobile County today. Now, those animals are being held at the Mobile County Animal Shelter. The shelter is asking anyone who might be looking for a new furry family member to come adopt one tomorrow, to make room for other strays that will be brought to them. We want to know what you think can be done to tackle the overcrowding problem at animal shelters. Leave your comment... Mel Showers and Rose Ann Haven will share some of the comments on the air during News 5 at 10pm. 2 hours ago - View -
Mark Mason : I have knowledge of modern-day Taylorism. If you're not familiar with Taylorism, google it. Let me say only that it's a brutal, inhumane strategy to turn humans into machinery whose movements are controlled by the second, controlled and measured by a stopwatch in the hands of management. I have knowledge of a major US business bringing in the neo-Taylorites into the warehouse and administrative offices. The "efficiency experts" were paid to look over the shoulders of both manual laborers in the warehouse, and over the shoulders of the cubicle-chained office staff. Every motion was recorded by the "expert." A report will follow outlining how to tell staff which muscle to move in what sequence of operations to make them "better" employees. This is the new-old workplace. I don't know as a fact, but I think it's reasonable to assume that the CEO and some other top management were not subjected to the degradation of Taylorism. 2 hours ago - View -
Crazy Cat Ladies Unite : I'm going to interrupt your regularly scheduled fb scrolling to ask my followers to speak up...how many of you own rescues? I have just been told that the cats featured on my page and in my albums are not. i own 4 rescue cats and a rescue dog...I also thought it was pretty obvious that my page promoted it but apparently I was wrong. Not that their is anything wrong with purchasing pure breed cats (please I am not trying to start an argument over adopt vs purchase)...I'd just like to see how many (if any) of you rescued your pets 4 hours ago - View -
We've had a vacant spot for dispatch for years , and the town refuses to fill it saying everything from 'not enough funds' to going as far as saying that dispatch is not as important as patrol officers . That sentiment was reiterated in the paper by our own chief. Our department has hired almost a dozen new patrol officers, which combined with all the special assignments (traffic teams, etc) has doubled our work load . With summer approaching and scheduling conflicts reaching a boiling point we are all ready to tear our hair out . If they were to fill that vacant spot it would alleviate about 75% of the present issues . I was wondering if anyone was operating under similar circumstances and had any suggestions ? 4 hours ago - View -
RSD/CRPS Doesn't Own Me : In light of recent events, I want to make sure that we all know our options. We are a population that is very suceptable to being taken advantage of. We are often on many medications and some of them are not cheap.
I want to remind everyone that there are coupons to discount the prices both with and without insurance online. You can ask you doctor if they have any "reduced copay cards" (my allergist gave me one for $0 dollar copay on epipens 2 pack for three refills today. I have been paying $100 dollars or more all along. Different pharmacies will have different prices for the same medication as well as for the different generics due to their agreements with the manufacturers. I know there is a bad conotation to "pharmacy shopping" and "doctor shopping" but we deserve to not be taken advantage of when many of us are on a tight budget as it is. Also know that my doctor got mad at me for changing a pharmacy once (this was due to insurance issues and being forced to change my pharmacy of 15 years). Remember that you can always just have the pharmacy transfer the script after the doctor calls it in to avoid irritating the doctors. Be smart and save yourself in the end. 4 hours ago - View -

Jon Kurland : Had a great meal at Fishbones. Was torn between the lobster mac & cheese or the heart-healthy fried seafood platter. I opted for the heart-healthy dish. Maybe you can help me with this. I not only advised Sara that I was getting my healthy veggies with the onion rings and fries but that I was also getting my fruit portion with the ketchup and tomato in the seafood cocktail. Her response was what I will charitably refer to as a disapproving look. Who's right? BTW, we have also disagreed with my assertion that carrot cake is a vegetable. 5 hours ago - View -
