Neil Heslin is the father of Jesse Lewis, 6, a student and Gilles Rousseau is the father of Lauren Rousseau, 30, a teacher. These two fathers from Newtown, CT are part of a lobby group to encourage the passage of SB221, a bill proposing the expansion of background checks in Nevada on all private sales which would go through federal firearms dealers directly to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System -- bypassing the state background system and associated costs. The bill also requires psychiatrists to report mental health patients who make specific threats. The Nevada Senate is expected to vote on the bill Wednesday.

The State vs Jodi Arias ~ Travis Alexander murder trial : Jodi Arias asked the jury to spare her life.

Arias told the jury that killing her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander was the worst thing she has ever done, and that she's still horrified by the violence she is capable of.

"Either way, I'm going to spend the rest of my life in prison. It'll either be shortened or not. If it's shortened, the people who will hurt the most is my family. I'm asking you please, please don't do that to them. I've already hurt them so badly along with so many other people. I want everyone's healing to begin and I want everyone's pain to stop," said Arias.

Arias told the jurors she would never become a mother, but said that despite spending the rest of her life in prison, her life would still have value to society.

"If I get permission, I'd like to implement a recycling program… each week, huge loads of waste are hauled off to landfill. A substantial proportion of that could be kept out of landfill and recycled instead. It may even create new jobs for the people there. This is one small thing that could have a positive and far-reaching impact on the community and planet," said Arias. "I'd like to start a book club or reading group. Something that brings people together in a positive and constructive way so that we can share and recommend other good books and stimulate discussions of a higher nature."

Court has recessed for lunch until 1:15pm in Phoenix. Attorneys for both sides will give their closing arguments this afternoon.

SAY OK SCHOOL OF ENGLISH | Translators | Interpreters : The Passive Voice Grammar Spotlight - Passive Voice

The passive voice does exist for a reason, however, and its presence is not always to be despised. The passive is particularly useful (even recommended) in two situations:

When it is more important to draw our attention to the person or thing acted upon: The unidentified victim was apparently struck during the early morning hours.
When the actor in the situation is not important: The aurora borealis can be observed in the early morning hours.
The passive voice is especially helpful (and even regarded as mandatory) in scientific or technical writing or lab reports, where the actor is not really important but the process or principle being described is of ultimate importance. Instead of writing "I poured 20 cc of acid into the beaker," we would write "Twenty cc of acid is/was poured into the beaker." The passive voice is also useful when describing, say, a mechanical process in which the details of process are much more important than anyone's taking responsibility for the action: "The first coat of primer paint is applied immediately after the acid rinse."

Chris Thiel : Don't Give your Hurricane Katrina Relief Donations to the Red Cross So I am sitting here watching the news and all they are talking about is the OK tornado. They keep bringing up victim after victim and I start thinking to myself, could these be actors just like in Newton and Aurora, just to gain sympathy from the American people to be duped into sending money to the Red Cross who has been known for keeping the donations that people send in. I hope its not the case and my heart does go out to those who lost everything.

Cindy Burclaw : my heart goes out to the people of moore ok. i pray that not many were killed. as im no stranger to tornados and what they do. i and my family was a victim of the purdy tornado. i seen this force of nature first hand. it was hugh and heading towards our house. we no idea were the kids were they could not be located. so shandi and i went home to look for them. it was terrible when we got to aurora they all ready blocked the roads. it did not stop me for fear of the out come i ran the road block telling the cops my family was in there. when we got there it was pitch black and uncommonly quiet. they were not there. a friend thought i was alone and came to see if i was alright. we all managed to find each other. the kids were in purdy were most of the damage was done. our house was condemn. it was awfull! thanks to fema and the red cross we were able to relocate. today we live in a house that has a basement some thing rare in this neck of the woods. moral of story dont mess with mother nature. god speed to the tornado victims
