Pat Mcintyre : In response to my letter to Miliband's office re workfare,(March 27) I was reassured by an unnamed correspondent last week that, "With record levels of young people out of work, the Labour Party believes young people must be offered a real choice of a real job with real wages." and "We would guarantee everyone unemployed for over two years a properly paid job." But on reading this week's New Statesman, I learn that Andy Burnham was taken to task, apparently by Ed Miliband's Chief of Staff, for daring to say, on the Andrew Marr show, that zero- hours contracts should be outlawed. As Kevin Maguire of the NS said, "(Zero hours contracts)put workers at the beck and call of bosses who summon them to work some weeks but then ignore them, unpaid in others". Maguire pointed out that ending exploitation is just the job for "one-nation Labour" Whether it was Livesey or someone else from Miliband's office, you have to wonder if some underling is working his socks off trying to make Ed look like an idiot and/or a liar. 3 hours ago - View -

For this week and this week only I am imposing a rule on the painting requests. The challenge is to come up with a request using no more than 5 words. It has been said that the suggestions are becoming almost formulaic in their randomness and I can't help but agree. With any luck this challenge will bring Jim'll Paint It back to basics so that when a complicated one does come along it stands out from the crowd. It also means I'll get loads more pictures done and make lots more people happy.
So go for it. Stick your 5 word requests below or on the wall as usual. Thanks! 1 day ago - View -

National Health Action Party : The Man Who Pushed a Toy Pig to the Bank of England A man suffering from bowel cancer pushes a toy pig with his nose for three miles from King's College Hospital to 10 Downing Street, and then again to the Bank of England. He does this in a desperate attempt to highlight the political abuse of the NHS, and the country as a whole.
