BEDFORD (GBR, Jun 16): It was the sprinters who stole the show again on day two of the England Athletics Under-20 and Under-23 Championships and European Trials at Bedford. Informs Athletics Weekly. Jodie Williams further announced her comeback as one of Britain’s brightest sprinting prospects, with a 23.21 (+0.5) CBP to take the 200m, while Adam Gemili clocked a PB of 20.30 (+0.8) to also record an impressive sprint double. Dina Asher-Smith won the under-20 200m in a fast 23.19 to become the third sprinter to do the double this weekend. Seb Rodger won the U23 400 m hurdles in 49.87. There were two more London Olympians in action in the under-23 women’s events. Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and hammer thrower Sophie Hitchon made light work of their national age group championships. Twenty-year-old Johnson-Thompson stormed to victory in the 100m hurdles in 13.69 (+0.6), before finishing fourth in the 200m with 24.11. Hitchon, meanwhile, threw 69.54m to win her event.

Olympic sprinter Adam Gemili has lost his first race of the season against a robot called Brian. The challenge came about after the pair disagreed on Twitter about who was the fastest runner. Although it is unlikely Adam expected his opponent to turn up (= to show up = явиться, заявиться) on wheels and a track to match.

It was a disappointing result for Adam, but thankfully he won't be competing against Brian in next month's World Athletics Championships in Moscow
